Children’s Dentistry for Garland & South Dallas Kids
Give Your Littlest Smile a Strong Start
Taking care of your child’s teeth is one of the easiest ways to ensure their long term health and give them a confident smile they’re always eager to show the world. To better serve our littlest smiles, we have partnered with a board-certified pediatric dentist, Dr. Anya Preece, who travels between our three Garland and South Dallas dental office locations for consults and treatments, and she even runs her own practice, Tiny Teeth Pediatric Dentistry. Thanks to her and our specially trained team, you can trust that we’ll always have exactly what your child’s smile needs to stay healthy and strong as it grows. Plus, Dr. Preece has partnered with the local children’s hospital, enabling us to provide an even wider array of services so you and your child will always be able to work with the doctor and team you trust. Whether it’s time for your child’s first checkup and cleaning or they need teeth repaired, we’ll always have them covered. If you have any questions about how we can help your child, or if you’re ready to schedule an appointment, please contact us today.
Comfort & Convenience of Family Dentistry
Many parents send their kids to a specialty dentistry practice for pediatric services, but at Universal Dental, we bring the specialist to you. That means your little ones can receive consistent treatment in a dental office they will be used to. There’s no need to transition to a new practice as a preteen, which can be stressful for many patients. Instead, your kids get treatment from the same team at every stage of dental development. We can schedule a block of appointments to make visiting our office convenient for the whole family. Our offices provide a variety of appointment times, including morning, evening, and weekend hours to fit any schedule.
Our Pediatric Dentistry Services
Like adults, kids should visit our team every six months for checkups and teeth cleanings and let us know as soon as possible if they experience tooth decay or dental damage. In addition to these basic services, we also offer a variety of treatments specially geared toward keeping kids smiling, including:
Emergency Children’s Dental Care
Kids are accident prone, and when the accident involves damage to their smiles, our team is here to help. In most cases, we can offer same day treatments for kids experiencing dental emergencies, and we’re unable to see your little one immediately, we’ll walk you through first aid and pain management over the phone.
To protect developing teeth, we may recommend dental sealants. This clear coat of plastic material places a physical barrier between the teeth and decay-causing plaque and tartar buildup. One application can last for years protecting your child’s smile.
Fillings allow us to repair teeth following minor tooth decay, chips, or cracks. Many parents mistakenly assume they do not need to repair damaged primary teeth because they’re going to fall out. However, if primary teeth are lost too soon, children may need treatment using a space maintaining appliance. Instead, we can protect and repair the damaged tooth to allow adult teeth time to develop.
For kids born with lip or tongue tie, a simple procedure called a frenectomy can completely transform their everyday lives by giving them the ability to speak, chew, smile, and eat without pain, discomfort, or impediment. Frenectomy removes excess tissue between teeth and lips or the tongue and mouth. We perform frenectomies conservatively using soft tissue lasers.
We can perform treatments like frenectomies using laser dentistry. This offers a more conservative solution. During frenectomies, gum disease therapies, and other soft tissue procedures, lasers can be used to provide treatments with minimal bleeding and discomfort and reduced healing time.
For serious dental damage that cannot be repaired with a more conservative filling, we may recommend a dental crown. These restorations fit completely over the top of a damaged or decayed tooth recreating the lost tissue and protecting teeth from further damage.
If primary teeth do not fall out on their own or patients experience complications during wisdom tooth development, we may recommend extraction. Our team is happy to offer safe and comfortable tooth pulling or surgical removal.
These oral appliances are recommended when kids lose primary teeth too soon. In order to allow the adult tooth to develop properly, we place a space maintainer to ensure there’s plenty of room from the tooth to develop and erupt.
Most family dentists refer patients to outside specialists for orthodontic treatments, but once again, we are happy to provide access to orthodontic treatment in our three South Dallas and Garland dental offices. We offer traditional braces, early intervention orthodontics, alignment tray braces, and oral appliances.
For patients under the age of 25, sports-related injuries are the leading cause of tooth loss. To limit your child’s risk of tooth decay, we recommend using a custom crafted athletic mouthguard to protect their smiles. We encourage patients to use sportsguards during any athletic competition or practice where their smiles may come in contact with other players, sports equipment, or hard services. This includes the obvious contact sports like football, but we also recommend mouthguards for cyclists and swimmers.
